Killie 150 - Blue and White Shoots of Recovery: 1952-1957

Just five seasons covered in this chapter but what a transformation in Kilmarnock's fortunes they brought. From an average lower tier side at the start of this period to third best in Scotland and two national cup finals behind them come the end of it. That mark of 1950s modernisation - floodlighting - had been installed. To many fans it must have seemed that it couldn't get any better than that. Yet it was about to. For it was during this period that some talented young players were signed. The first of the class of 1965.

CORRECTIONS

Manager Malcolm MacDonald is referred to throughout as 'McDonald,' This is a deliberate error and applies to anyone in this book with a 'Mac' surname. It's common practice as far as indexing is concerned and telephone directories have been constructed the same way for decades. My apologies to any with a 'Mac' surname taking offence at this.

Another inaccuracy in this chapter is with regard to myself when I make the comparison between someone of Frank Beattie's dimensions being regarded as 'big' in the 1950s but thought of as average by the 1990s. I stated I was within half an inch and a couple of pounds of 'Big Frank.'

A quarter of a century on, sadly only the height part applies now.
