Killie 150 - More Final Flings: 1929-1939

Two more Scottish Cup Finals, the first overseas tour, a managerial sacking sensation, improved league placings and record crowds was how the 1930s panned out for Kilmarnock. By the summer of 1939 the club was in fine fettle and further progress seemed certain. Then Herr Hitler stepped in. But that's a tale for the next chapter.

CORRECTIONS

Not really a correction, more setting the grim record straight. Seventy-one children died in the horrific Glen Cinema disaster on Hogmanay 1929. But the deaths occurred as a result of a stampede to try and escape the fire rather than the actual fire itself. The callous reaction of the Scottish Football League in ordering St Mirren and Kilmarnock to play the following day is, sadly, all too accurate.

On pages 55-56 I say that new manager Jimmy McGrory made just two signings when he took over. This is incorrect. He also signed keeper Wilson 'Bill' Marsh.
